However, the separation of church and state was never intended to remove all references to religion from the public square.
Interestingly, the percentage of people who believe Christmas should be celebrated in public schools has decreased from 76% in 2021 to 69% in the recent survey. Notably, New York City Mayor Eric Adams made a strong argument against separating church and state, suggesting that the removal of prayer from schools was connected to a rise in gun violence.
