11Alive’s YouTube video Opinion Screenshot: El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has criticized the United States for losing the moral high ground regarding democracy, in response to the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to remove former President Donald Trump from their 2024 presidential ballot based on a misinterpretation of alleged violations of the 14th Amendment. Bukele posted his comments on the social media platform X as he, and other world leaders, expressed shock and disgust at the court ruling, while Trump’s Republican primary opponents criticized the decision. Bukele’s comments highlight the diminishing credibility of the United States on the global stage, with the Colorado ruling raising concerns about the abuse of judicial power. The Trump campaign has announced that they will appeal the decision to the US Supreme Court, and former White House lawyer Ty Cobb does not believe the decision will hold in the higher court.
