Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) urged his Republican colleagues not to fight back against GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump or his endorsed candidates.
Vance’s comments came via a social media post on X.
“I have a long memory,” he warned. “If you’re fighting Trump and his endorsed candidates politically today, don’t ask for my help in a year with your legislation or your pet projects.”
Vance has swiftly morphed into one of the former President’s staunchest allies in the Senate after winning the election in 2022.

J.D. Vance – America First
Senator J.D. Vance has been a textbook ‘America First’ member of Congress since joining the Senate in January of 2023.
Earlier this year, he slammed Ukraine as America’s “welfare client” while accusing them of “executing” an American citizen, journalist Gonzalo Lira.
Not long before that, he thoroughly eviscerated the media for covering Trump’s response to the border invasion under President Biden, as opposed to the invasion itself.

“You’re trying to police the guy who’s criticizing the problem so that Americans don’t pay attention to the guy who caused the problem,” Vance claimed.
The Ohio congressman has also called out criminal charges against Trump and the court proceedings associated with them as “straight-up election interference.”

Thomas Massie Responds
Despite his strong support for the presumptive Republican nominee for president, J.D. Vance was quickly reminded that sometimes Trump’s endorsements evolve with the times.
Pointing this out was none other than Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY).
“I take his endorsements with a grain of salt,” Massie responded on X. “He once said I should be thrown out of the GOP because I asked for a recorded vote on the CARES Act, which was the biggest spending bill in history.”
“He can sometimes be wrong, but I will work with him for the good of the country.”
Critics also noted that J.D. Vance’s long memory might not include his own change of opinion regarding Trump.
A text message from 2016 showed that Vance viewed Trump as either “a cynical asshole” or “America’s Hitler.”
Trump though, endorsed Vance and later joked that the senator had been “kissing his ass” despite saying very negative things about the former President in the past.
This isn’t an attempt to embarrass Vance for his comments but rather, a gentle reminder that sometimes people’s hearts and minds change.
Whatever is said during a contentious primary season will not matter so long as people are saying – and more importantly, doing – the right things when it matters.
