Manchin-Romney 2024?

Manchin, who has been under fire for his more conservative votes despite his party affiliation, made his remarks on Thursday about the Republican senator from Utah being high on his list of running mates.

NBC News reported, “Hypothetically, if I was picking my running mate, really who I would ask right now is Mitt Romney.”

“Manchin also said he would consider former Sen. Rob Portman, a Republican from Ohio, as a vice presidential pick,” NBC News noted.

“Rob’s a dear friend of mine,” Manchin said. “What a good man.”

Both men are known as “Never Trump” Republicans from the more established old guard of the party.

The story continued:

“Third party run, everything is on the table,” Manchin said in response to a question from NBC News. “Nothing’s off the table. I’m still evaluating all that. Super Tuesday [March 5] pretty much would be a deadline that tells you where you are.”

Without being on every state’s ballot, Super Tuesday is Manchin’s best bet for getting enough delegates to make demands.
