Here is an article posted under “Politics.” It reports on the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Texas, under Governor Greg Abbott, has been putting up resistance at major illegal crossing points at its border with Mexico. As a result, illegal entries have increased in Arizona, California, and New Mexico where similar policies are not being implemented.
In order to prevent illegal entry, which is a crime, Texas Department of Public Safety officers have been arresting illegal foreign nationals. The goal is to block illegal entry and ensure consequences for those who still get through.
Border czar Mike Banks stated that Texas has implemented a “PDI strategy” to position, deter, and interdict. The U.S.-Mexico border is 1,954 miles long, with Texas sharing the longest border with Mexico. However, the remaining 70% of the illegal crossings are occurring in Arizona, California, and New Mexico.
In recent months, illegal entries have increased in California and Arizona and significantly dropped in Texas. The data refers solely to Border Patrol apprehensions and excludes Office of Field Operations and gotaway data.
The Center Square has reported that gotaways, those who intentionally illegally enter to avoid capture, are estimated to total over two million nationwide since January 2021. When broken down by recent months, illegal entries have increased in California and Arizona and dropped significantly in Texas, according to CBP data.
Overall, it seems that Texas is gaining control of the border, and the state aims to cut off illegal entry into Texas.
