Free Class – Shaker Card with the ES Mat

Heart Shaker Card

This free Michaels/Silhouette class is making a simple heart shaker card using the Silhouette ES Mat! Register here (ended) to join me on Thursday, February 6th at 11am MT (12pm CT). Get ready for Valentine’s Day with this fun and creative class where you’ll learn to make an adorable shaker card! Discover the ins and outs of the Silhouette Electrostatic Mat as you cut card elements-including some playful confetti for the shaker design. I will demonstrate the process using the Silhouette Cameo 5 and a 12-inch ES Mat, but don’t worry–this project is perfectly adaptable for the Portrait 4 and 8.5-inch ES Mat as well. Instructions:

Software (Silhouette Studio v5.0.081) –
  1. In Design Tab, set Page Setup to:
    • Machine = Cameo 5
    • Cutting Mat = ES Mat, 12 inch
    • Media Size = Letter
  2. Open Heart Shaker Card design #1239372
  3. Move all pieces to side of virtual mat and places pieces one color at a time on mat for cutting
  4. Cut card base on ES Mat from pink 65 lb – 80 lb cardstock (suggested) – or cut letter-size page in half and fold
  5. Cut two heart frames on ES Mat from red 65 lb cardstock
    • Material: Patterned Paper, Med. (65 lb), Force 30, Speed 5, Blade depth 3
  6. Cut larger square from different pink or pattern paper (similar material settings)
  7. White hearts – “Fill Page,” then delete all but about 4 rows for a single card
  8. Cut a few rows of white hearts from copy paper (could also use foil cardstock or other colors)
    • Material: Copy Paper, Med. (20 lb) Blade 2, Speed 10, Force 15
  9. Cut or trim 3” squares from clear acetate – use cardstock settings and 2 passes if cutting with the Cameo
Assembly:
  1. Glue pattern paper to back of 1st red heart cutout
  2. Glue acetate to back of 2nd red heart cutout
  3. Place strips of foam tape along square frame edges, then along lower straight heart pieces. Avoid leaving any gaps for glitter to escape.
  4. Leave backing in place on top until after shaker pieces have been added
  5. Place some white heart cutouts to 3 sections of heart frame
  6. Add some chunky glitter to same sections
  7. Carefully remove foam tape backing
  8. Carefully place top heart cutout on top of foam tape to seal in shaker elements
  9. Glue shaker frame to card base
