Kelly,
I loved this project, however it has me confronting the issue of settings. Mine are so far off what I see you using on your Cameo 4. What is a systematic way to run trials of settings for our Cameo 4s. Do you start with blade depth, force, or another setting to arrive at a workable set of settings for materials. For instance, the Recollections shimmer page I used ended up at Depth 10, force 15, and I ended up doing three passes twice to get clean cuts. A similar situation for the green card stock. For the plain cardstock I started with force instead of blade depth…
thanks for your thoughts on this.
Hi Hope. Those settings for your cuts do not seem even close to the “average” machine or blade. Have you tried a different blade? If you’re using an autoblade, are you sure you are loading your mat correctly so the blade can adjust itself correctly? If using an autoblade, can you see the red line move to higher numbers as it taps to see if it is really adjusting correctly? Also make sure your blade is fully pushed down when you lock it in to the tool holder. Gotta cover the basics first.
To answer your question assuming you are using a good blade and machine, the base starting point should always be the default settings in the Send Panel for the material you are cutting, but in your case there is something else going on. Adjusting blade depth setting changes the blade in 0.10mm increments. Changing the force is less, adjusting in something like 0.010mm increments. I usually say you can adjust the force by 2-5 numbers at a time if the cut is really close to getting it right. If you need bigger adjustments (the cut is far from perfect) then adjust the blade depth. I’m interested to hear if you get the same results when trying a new blade. Even with a dull blade, I never have to cut higher than my blade depth on 5 for 65 lb. cardstock. If a new blade gives you the same results of needing to cut on blade depth 10, then it could be something with your machine and I suggest you reach out to Silhouette Support for assistance. Let me know!
